I love watches.

So how much do you think I love American-made watch stuff? There’s honestly not much out there that ticks both boxes. American watches used to be a thriving industry, but there’s not too much left. I’m left with watch related stuff that’s made here. Watch straps, cases, etc.

If you’re going to have watches, you’ll likely need a method of carrying them around. My preferred method of traveling with my beloved time pieces is the Bradley Mountain tool roll.

Who Is Bradley Mountain

Bradley Mountain started, like so many other great things, in a garage in California. In 2012, Bradley Mountain started by making the kind of items they wanted to see in stores but that no one was making. Their self-professed goal is “to bring you the best gear (in function, durability, and aesthetic) for your adventures.” All of their products are made in the US using durable materials in an attempt to create goods that will outlive the purchaser.

Additionally, they offer a lifetime guarantee on their website. They state that they will repair any and all bags for free. Just mail them the bag and they’ll fix it. This is the kind of unconditionally guarantee you will only find from small companies making quality goods they intend to stand behind.

What Is This Thing

I bought this roll from one of my favorite local stores called Man Ready Mercantile here in Houston, Texas. I bought it quite some time ago, so I’m not quite sure the specific name of this product, but it looks a lot like the pipe roll on their website. Regardless, this is what is known as a tool roll. It’s something typically used to keep tools sorted and protected by a thin layer of durable fabric.

This one is designed to carry tobacco, a pipe, a lighter, and a tamper. However, I’ve found it works equally well as a watch roll. Three pockets, three timepieces, which is all you really need.

What I Love About It

In this section of the blog, I’ll tell you what I love about this tool roll.

Made in America

First and foremost, this item is hand-made in America. You can feel the love that went into the construction of this thing and in the materials they chose to include in it. I absolutely adore it when companies chose to make items to the highest possible standards using American labor.

This is not the kind of thing that was slapped together to meet a price-point by people who didn’t care about the end product or how it was made. This was carefully assembled by people who have promised to keep it in good working condition, forever.

Looks

This tool roll is a utilitarian item. It is designed to do a job. There’s no reason for it to look nice. No reason for it to be finished well or made from beautiful materials

But it is.

The leather is extremely thick and supple. It’s the kind of thing that will probably outlast me and whoever I pass it down to. The canvas is a beautiful blue color with a similarly durable feeling. The whole thing walks that fine line between luxury and industrial-grade durability. It’s a thing you don’t mind spending money one because it looks wonderful and feels like it will survive the apocalypse.

Function

I can’t speak to this thing’s intended purpose. I don’t smoke….anymore. What I can speak to is how well this works for holding all manner of timepieces for travel. You really only need 3 watches in life.

You need one for dress, one for play, and one for adventure. These usually take the form of some dainty gold thing, a chronograph or field watch, and a dive watch.

This tool roll allows you to keep your essential collection with you no matter if you’re going somewhere for the weekend or if you’re going to be traveling the world for months. This tool roll will keep your beloved watches safe, sound, and compact for travel. With this tool roll, you will have all the watches you need from black tie to the beach.
